To fish on inland waterways in Spain it is necessary to obtain a license (Permiso de pesca), these are issued for individual provinces by the local office of the National Institute for the Conservation of Nature (Instituto Nacional para la Conservacion de la Naturaleza). As in most European countries It is usually also necessary to obtain a permit to fish at the individual Lake or river although there are still some "free waters" where only a fishing license is required. For those who enjoy Fly Fishing, Trout are common throughout Spain and Salmon can be found in the north of the country particularly in the regions of Galicia and Cantabria. Other freshwater fish species that can be found in Spain include Carp, Pike, Barbel, Bream, Tench, Sturgeon and Perch along with a large variety of smaller specimen.
